Halfcrown, Hartlebury Castle mint, king on horseback left, rev. oval shield, mm. pears, 14.67g, (S.3129, N.2626). Uneven flan as usual with this rare mint, but well struck with a bold portrait and with fields almost free from blemishes, better than very fine and very rare

Crown, 1656/4, English shield in wreath, rev. English and Irish shields, mark of value and date above, mm. sun, 30.08g, (S.3214, N.2719). Struck on a round flan, extremely fine or better and rare this fine

Farthing', struck in white metal, a double obverse striking on a thick flan, countermarked on one side with a portcullis and the other with two lis, the plain edge also countermarked with three lis, offered with letters dated 1995 from Spink concerning its authenticity and photographs taken at this time, (c.f. S.3230). Generally considered to be a forger's practice piece, nevertheless a curious item. Some surface porosity, good fine/fair

Five Guineas, 1684, second laureate bust right, rev. crowned cruciform shields, sceptres in angles, edge T.SEXTO (S.3331). Slight discolouration to neck and truncation, otherwise with excellent lustrous fields, residual red tone in legends, the edge lettering sharp, a most attractive example and almost extremely fine

Guinea, 1670, third laureate bust right, rev. crowned cruciform shields, sceptres in angles, (S.3342A). Weakness of strike to the centre of reverse, light scratch though S of CAROLVS, but good very fine or better, a pleasing example, Charles II guineas being hard to find in this better state of preservation

Crown, 1662, first laureate and draped bust right, rose below, rev. crowned cruciform shields, interlinked C's in angles, seven strings to harp, edge undated, struck en medaille (S.3350A, ESC.- seven strings to harp not recorded for en medaille die axis). Nicely toned and very fine, rare

Crown, 1664, second laureate and draped bust right, rev. crowned cruciform shields, interlinked C's in angles, eight strings to harp, edge XVI, reverse out of alignment, (S.3355, ESC.362). Some minor pitting, the obverse struck from a tidied up rusty die

Note:
A curious coin on two accounts. The reverse die axis is out of alignment by approximately 45 degrees and the obverse die is either unfinished, or has been corroded and improperly tidied up leaving the area behind the head

Halfcrown, 1677, fourth laureate and draped bust right, rev. crowned cruciform shields, interlinked C's in angles, edge V. NONO, (S.3367, ESC.475). Some scratches both sides, toned and good fine

Maundy Set, 1686, laureate head left, rev. crowned mark of value, (S.3418). Old tone, generally good very fine and well matched

Crown, 1691, conjoined laureate and draped busts right, rev. crowned cruciform shields, WM monogram in angles, edge TERTIO, (S.3433, ESC.820). Much better than usually found, hints of original brilliance in places, nicely struck with just the lightest of wear to the high points, about extremely fine

Sixpence, 1693, conjoined laureate and draped busts right, rev. crowned cruciform shields, WM monogram in angles, (S.3438, ESC.869). Most attractively toned, very fine or better

Sixpence, 1697, Chester mint, first laureate and draped bust right, C below, rev. crowned cruciform shields, angles plain, later harp, small crowns, no stops after MAG, FRA and HIB (S.3533, ESC.1273 (R5)). Cross scratched by chin, about very fine and extremely rare

Sixpence, 1697, Exeter mint, first laureate and draped bust right, E below, rev. crowned cruciform shields, angles plain, small crowns, small 7 in date, (S.3534, ESC.1283 R2). Nearly very fine and rare

Note:
The tickets with this coin state that it is E over B below the bust, however the cataloguer believes that the top of the E was clogged on the die. There appears to be no definite curve of the B below the E

Crown, 1707, pre-Union, first draped bust left, rev. crowned cruciform shields, roses and plumes in angles, edge SEXTO, (S.3578, ESC.1343). Attractively toned, nearly extremely fine

Maundy Twopence, 1708, pre-Union, second draped bust left, rev. crowned mark of value, date above, (S.3597A, ESC.1517). Beautifully toned and about uncirculated, certified and graded by NGC as MS 62 - the only example of the type with an MS grade

Sixpence, 1711, post-Union, normal draped bust left, rev. crowned cruciform shields, angles plain, (S.3619, ESC.1461). Golden tone in recesses, practically extremely fine

Quarter Guinea, 1718, laureate head right, rev. crowned cruciform shields, sceptres in angles, (S.3638). Light scratch on obverse, otherwise extremely fine and lustrous, a pleasing example

Crown, 1718/6, laureate and draped bust right, rev. crowned cruciform shields, roses and plumes in angles, edge QVINTO, (S.3639, ESC.1542). Beautifully toned and nearer extremely fine than very fine

Shilling, 1723, first laureate and draped bust right, rev. crowned cruciform shields, SSC in angles, C over SS in third quarter, (S.3647, ESC.1590). Toned, nearly extremely fine and rare

Sixpence, 1723, laureate and draped bust right, small lettering, rev. crowned cruciform shields, SSC in angles, (S.3652, ESC.1612). Struck from a cracked reverse die, extremely fine

Crown, 1732, young laureate and draped bust left, rev. crowned cruciform shields, roses and plumes in angles, edge SEXTO, (S.3686, ESC.1660). Slightly irregular flan shape typical of early George II crowns, attractively toned and nearer extremely fine than very fine
